Pre-Expedition:
Long-Term
Support
Recognizing the importance of long-term
mentoring and support to the ultimate
success of college-bound students
in poverty, STEP has forged partnerships
with a variety of local youth organizations
to identify its students. To date
we are partnering with Arizona Quest
for Kids, Neighborhood Ministries,
Greater Phoenix Youth at Risk, Crittenton
Youth Academy, Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson, and Youth On Their
Own.
Orientations
and Trainings
During the school year preceding their
summer expedition, STEP provides its
students with a series of orientations
to the program and trainings in teambuilding
and problem-solving to prepare them
for their upcoming expedition.
Post-Expedition:
Speaker’s
Program
In the year following the expedition,
students participate in a speaker’s
program in which they share their
expedition experiences, lessons learned,
and personal reflections with youth
throughout their local community.
Through this program, STEP students
gain valuable experience speaking
in public and their younger peers
are made aware of the incredible opportunities
open to them through STEP if they
devote time and effort to their studies.
Additional
Summer Leadership Opportunities
STEP identifies and informs its students
of additional summer leadership opportunities
and pre-college programs.
