Our Approach

STEP’s revolutionary approach is based on the premise that the first step to success and high achievement for any individual is the strong internal belief that he or she has what it takes to succeed. The most powerful and immediate way to come to this understanding is through experience, through challenges met and hardships overcome. Extended at-sea and wilderness expeditions provide such a pathway and are at the core of the STEP program. Realizing the power of extended expeditioning to positively shape young people’s lives, STEP is committed to providing promising low-income high-school students with:

1.	A pivotal 3-week leadership expedition in order to bring about an internal transformation in the way these students view themselves and their ability to succeed.
2.	Additional leadership opportunities to enhance their skills and build on their self-confidence.
